Lori Loré
Colored Pencil Artist
I paint with colored pencils because I can create art that blends realism with creative expression.
My Creative Process
I study my reference to mentally draw the image.
My drawing process can begin with freehand sketches, and includes color analysis and color pencil swatches.
I apply color theory to blend pigments, adjust values and chroma, and select pencils. Layering with fewer pencils becomes easier with practice. A simple line drawing provides freedom to paint what I see.
I allow the art to develop intuitively. Starting with solid sketches, a value map, and color swatches, I trust the art to guide me.
Follow the art, but carry a map. Art doesn’t always know where it is going.”
